@bstacey Right? I sort of slapped my forehead with that one. Of course that's who'd be running it. (Though, to be fair, Dorsey and his whole crew were really pushing NFTs.)
@mcnees Twitter Blue being run by someone straight out of pushing NFTs goes in the file of things I should have expected.
@mcnees "Elon Musk is a brilliant engineer and scientist, and he has a track record of having a Midas touch"
I don't think I could have restrained myself to compose a reply so polite as "I take your point, but as a childhood Greek mythology nerd..." On the contrary, my phrasing would likely have included variations upon "you culturally illiterate cockwomble" and the like.
@mcnees 🎶 He's the man
The man with the Midas touch
A spider's touch
Such a cold finger
Beckons you to enter his web of sin
But don't go in 🎶
@CatDragon People really project onto him.
I'm sure a lot of tech folks are enchanted by the possibility of an uber-engineer rising to the top by virtue of his cool, mechanical skill and talent, qualities they hope they see in themselves *finally* receiving appropriate recognition.
He's a sort of nerd wish fulfillment, and it's all a complete scam.
@mcnees Luke Simon saying Musk is a brilliant engineer and scientist makes me realize just how many supposedly intelligent people were fooled.
He’s an entrepreneur with a nose for trends and tech. I’d suggest one of my cats has a better grasp of engineering.
@nickw This but he sent them a picture of himself.

@mcnees the engineering director who owns, “a portrait of himself dressed as a 19th-century French general” … good Lord.
