   most people don't know how to use tech properly.

   but more importantly, they don't *care* that they don't know how to use it properly.

   if it just barely works, that's enough. why bother with the hassle of setting it up properly?

   that's also why people use spreadsheets as databases. they're far easier to get going with.

   instead of bitching that people aren't using databases, we should integrate spreadsheets with databases better. i don't see why a spreadsheet can't be backed by an SQL database. both use tables.

     @thor I have seen a horror of an Excel-based application that used a SQL driver for Excel to have one spreadsheet use another s a relational database, glued together with some application/plugin layer written in C.
     
     But it worked!

     @maverick604 there aren't really that many new ideas in the IT space. just ideas that are tried again from time to time.

     @thor *Way* back in the day, I used just such a beast on the mac, I believe it was called “Spreadbase”, and it was glorious. That was pre-internet, however, and I can find no reference of it anywhere now.
