I took an entire semester of Native Americans In The Cinema, lead by a surly Lakota guy.
I watched an *astonishingly* huge amount of bad films featuring Native Americans and their cinematic tropes in that class. Literally, every class was watch a film, write a paper on it.
I've also watched a *huge* amount of Sci-Fi. I know that aliens are often used as stand-ins for non-white peoples all the time as pop-SF is often aimed only at white people.
So, yes, Avatar was pretty.
It had some great CGI for the time.
You're allowed to enjoy it.
But I can still hear my anthropology professor yelling at the screen each time I watch it.
