June's matchmaking session is going to either be surprisingly cool or not.
Especially as we will be in with blockchain and other decentralized projects (ledger) and a router project.
Can't help but feel the blockchain has alot to answer for taking over the term decentralization.
Need to look at the other projects beforehand to get an idea of who I'm dealing with. At least there's a router project there.

I think much like the concept of decentralization has been overtaken by the blockchain, so has the definition of libertarianism.
Although increasingly as I get older and find out what anarchy actually is, I find I've been an anarchist without knowing what it was. When I was younger thought I was a Liberal.

Yeah... What's interesting is the point when the fad starts to fade, or the unravelling begins and then some company comes late to the party like chess.com with treasure.chess.
I just watched my first crypto guy advertising his services in a thread on how to opt out.
The crypto/NFT shenanigans do seem very different from the other fads. This is beyond tech trickery it's like Ponzi as a service

It feels like cryptocurrency/NFT people are defining reality as whatever you get paid for.
If something makes them money, it is real and valid.
So, if they make money by selling fake receipts for stolen Jpegs, and the original creator of the Jpeg gets nothing, well then that's all fine because whatever action makes money is the one that counts as real work.
It's some weird repackaging of "might is right", and maybe that's why it appeals to far right people so much?

I'm quite old, like in my 40s now, I remember Web 2.0, then "the cloud".
We have had some really cool innovative thinking, like orchestration, the Fediverse. But it kinda gets wrapped up in marketing terms that covers up weither the tech is truly innovative or packaged fancy.
Kinda feel like grandpa Simpson yelling at the cloud.

I'm sure some folk attending will be like me, but oh it feels kinda icky... Blockchain ugh.
I need to just have an open mind when I attend.

But this is what I mean about the obsession with unicorns and the EUs need for a return on investment on projects that have been funded by grants.
As a project we do need to interact and find ways of ensuring our project is sustainable.
That means collaboration (which can be really cool) and funding (everyone needs some form of sustenance).
Which means sometimes projects need to attend these type of pitch/matchmaking events.

The other group is: Big Data, machine learning and AI/ Healthcare and well-being π. Which sounds almost innocuous.
But it feels just wrong. Need to look at that list as well.

I'm honestly starting to think they took buyer beware as a mantra to get as many schmucks as possible to part with their money, because to the crypto bros they deserve the money and in their minds clearly their marks don't.
I also do wonder about the backgrounds of some of the bros , like did they have a good education with the "right" kinda people.
I found the documentary by folding thing "Line goes up" , about crypto currency and NFTs interesting to watch.

Well, thank you again, "Line Goes Up" was extremely depressing but enlightening! π π
The most worrying part was about people who have their money trapped in cryptocurrency, and they can only get back to normal life by finding more victims to take their place.
It seems that cryptocurrency is the financial equivalent of the video tape from "Ring" / "Ringu". We really need to smash that tape before more get hurt!

This is why alot of us on here are so loud in our opposition to it. It takes so many resources from us, not just power consumption, but parts and the electronic waste.
I saw a vice video about a huge bitcoin minding farm in Texas thousands of machines dedicated to burning our resources, and our projects in FOSS can't easily access testbed resources of that size. Proof of work is the paperclip game in real life.

@onepict It's part of why I talk about distribution. One part is because a distributed architecture is more robust than a decentralized one. Another is that decentralization is just less centralisation, not anti-centralization, as evidenced by us having a few super dominant fedi instances. But one part is also to use different language from crypto bros.
