@ajroach42 indeed, I've always thought that the arc of the Jedi in canon was a story of how positive ideals taken to extremes and given moral and political authority become corrupted

There are hints at ideological corruption along the way; that is that the ideology as presented in canon has itself been corrupted from its original intent (big hints in the whole "the Jedi must end" arc and the saving of ancient texts suggesting that the need for rebirth of a less corrupt ideology)
Though of course, whether that "actually" happened is largely my headcanon ;)
