Let's talk about NFTs! (Thread will be continued in unlisted toots below this one.)
With so many new users arriving on .art fleeing Twitter and their support of NFTs, I thought it might be a good time to talk about .art's stance on NFTs. While users are allowed to share their NFT art on here, as Curator I will never boost it, and .art will never integrate with anything NFT related and will not encourage or promote any NFT-related content.

@Curator a bit late to the party but still want to express apreciation for your stance wrt NFTs
artificial scarcity? that's totally backwards and obviously not beneficial to anyone but those who run the show and want to have more power and money on top of what they already have.

NFTs are about money, not art. They do not serve the best interests of artists, and it's increasingly common to hear of artists who've had their art stolen by NFT sites. If you're thinking of getting into NFTs, *please* research thoroughly to avoid getting scammed.

The general vibe of our creative userbase (and indeed, a large portion of the greater Mastoverse) is that NFTs are, at best, problematic - if you've chosen .art to share your NFTs, you may find yourself struggling to get an audience, and might get more engagement on an instance specifically related to NFTs/crypto.

@reinderdijkhuis We usually get some 5-10 new sign ups a day. Immediately after Twitter's announcement yesterday we got 25 new users within the space of an hour, almost all of them directly citing Twitter's NFT decision as their reason for joining. Had another 20 users overnight, and a steady trickle continuing through the morning, mostly still mentioning fleeing Twitter. :)

@xenophora @reinderdijkhuis yeah, we'll see. The benefits of the much more wholesome community of Masto are like a slow burn, takes more time to get there but infinitely more valuable.

Experience informs me that within a few weeks/months most of them will go back to Twitter because this place doesn't create the same addictive brain fever for users. But I hope I'm wrong.
