From this we conclude that spells in FFXIV are very similar to barrier instructions like ARM's ISB, in that they allow only very limited pipelining (FF: precasting) and parallelism (FF: no weaving of oGCD abilities)

First you issue them (FFXIV: Press cast button)
Then they commit (Slidecast movement becomes possible)
Then they compete (Damage applied to enemy, you can begin casting again)
