`wc`, after mostly-typical initialization, retrieves optimal buffersize, configures line buffering mode, checks $POSIXLY_CORRECT, parses & normalizes flags indicating which counts it should output, possibly opens & `fstat`s the file those specified listing other files to summarize OR consults args, ...
