   XMPP isn’t top of my list for protocols of choice. I’ve used it a few times but not religiously.

   But this platform for some reason really appeals to me. https://jmp.chat a phone number accessible via xmpp / sip and with most of their bridges and code open source. I’ve been needing to setup a dedicated work phone number. Maybe I should give them a try.

     Oh that's interesting. When I look closer at jmp.chat it seems @singpolyma is involved. singpolyma.net/ confirms.
     
     It seems singpolyma.net is no longer OStatus, only WebMention.

     Most default Android dialers have SIP integration built in but they've also forked Conversations to add a proper dialer with dialtones so you can interact with automated phone systems through native XMPP. The app is called Cheogram and you can get a download link by joining the XMPP MUC and asking for it. I don't think it's fully released yet
