There are a lot of accounts getting temporarily suspended because The Algorithm isn't designed to cope with Russia.
Are there efforts to get OSINT folks backup accounts on mastodon / the fediverse ongoing? Are there mastodon instances that are willing to take on backup accounts for these folks if they are interested?

@feonixrift The Algorithm has had since the Arab Spring to learn how to cope with something like Russia, and didn't, for Reasons.

Additionally, as Russia is now known to be blocking Twitter, it is clear they do not want the Russian people to know what is happening. The potential for honest information to reach into Russia from the internet lies with relaying it through other domains; mastodon is technologically ideal for this.

Putin has revealed himself to be a pathetically weak strongman and a specialist only in assassination.
Ukraine is doing the unthinkable.
And he has lost so much.

@thegibson I do not believe Putin has yet even gotten serious - he sent in what, a third of the force? with the lighter guns? It's a cause of great hope to see that Kyiv has not fallen, but this is far from over.

@thegibson I confess to being fucking on edge that one wrong flag getting a missile in it will mean we are all-in. Simultaneously, how are we not, how are the nations just allowing this. There are no good answers and what hopes I have lie with the Russian people defying Putin, I can see no way anyone but them can stop this.

Us sent almost 1Bill in aid in the pasg 24 hours, and doubled their troop presence in De and Po. Nato response is up and active.
Putin's supply lines are shot, his militaryalready in shambles.

His supply lines and weapons manufacturing capabilities are shot. I think he was weaker than anyone realized.
