Teach kids the meaning of abuse and why it's STUPID. Teach them what's addiction. Give them UNDERSTANDING not knowledge and they will manage on their own.

@markusl correct. Parents (and their circle imo) have the duty to teach that. Honestly, to teach anything.
This said, I can't accept that I'm considered responsible enough to drive a car or serve in the army an not to buy alcohol on my own. Ridicolous.

Yes, some of the edge effects can get strange. In the UK, I could have got married or joined the army at 16 (both with parental consent), but not legally bought a round of drinks until I was 18. (Not that that ever stopped me; the tacit understanding, in those days, was that 18 meant "16 and well-behaved". They've tightened up enforcement since then.)

@markusl I didn't read that document yet but I've read plenty before. I have a passion for psychology and dependencies. Science is right but education does miracle.
What I"m saying is that, sooner or later, they are getting exposed. How do they manage if they don't know how to handle it?
Do you expect that they will refuse every single offer they will get in their life? I don't.

I do agree that people's first few experiences of drinking should be in a safe, healthy space, where they can learn without risk. But isn't that an argument for minimum age limits for buying alcohol? Your first drinks should be provided by your parents, not by some 15-year-old lad who wants to get off with you.

As we all know, one of the first effects of alcohol is to make you want more alcohol, but the euphoria soon wears off with increased consumption. Some of us learn to drink slowly and maintain the optimum level, a gentle buzz without disinhibition and danger; others, genetically different, never do, and don't realise they're in a trap until it snaps shut around them.

Laws tend to get made to close loopholes. If you are rich and powerful enough laws don't seem to apply except in very rare cases at the moment

@onepict I don't think it's news. It seems it has been like that since ever. Probably what has changed is the amount of people who are rich AND (logic &) who believe to be untouchable and (not logic) are proud of it. I shared an article about it earlier today, I think
