   Looking up various freedom hosters I found myself once again regretting that I didn't interact more and never met in person Charles Roth, Encyclomundi, father of parlementum.net, Cultural Detective, Curious Antiquary, Noted Pedestrian, Armchair Historian, Blogger, Fusspot, president of the Seattle Geographic Society and alter ego of the Earl of Whidbey before it was too late and he left this world.

     For a while I even thought he was already gone, but he came back on Twitter after a few years, but still all I did was just to say that it was nice to see that he was getting a bit better, and not much more than that.

     Thank you for everything, Charles. You were a pioneer and my first fedi host outside the identi.ca flagship.
     
     You were also my first Friendica host, and now years later I'm back on Friendica again.
     
     Even as your health was failing, you tried your darndest to set up an organization so that your servers would not be left in the wind after you were gone. Sadly it was difficult to find people that had the time and energy to do the work.
     
     The world needs more people like you. I want to be more like you. I will try to, as I get older and wiser. Your empowered users are your legacy.

     He was born in 1966 and only became 53. I always assumed he was about a decade older than that, he had such an air about him of having seen and come to terms with life.

     We were born within a month of each other, which was always one of our many points of connection. I miss him.
