Especially when your Narrator goes "we need these finalized by Friday". π€£ -

I'm meeting (over video) friends tomorrow, good friends, that I haven't met for years. And a whole week of preparations with background and stats, reading up on rules and even watching the movie is just building up the excitement even more. We're gonna have so much fun!
We'll be playing Mophidious's John Carter/Barsoom, which we game-tested, goodness, six and seven years ago, which is when I last met half of them. -

It's a pretty fun adventure story and a road trip on thoat across the Barsoomian desertified sea floors. -

The Zodangans in the book are a little harder than the Helians, but still peaceful & generous mostly. They aren't crazy planet-wrecking steampunk spider-city freaks like the movie; no Red Martian would behave like that.
If they'd made the film focus on Carter's survival story, and not mix in that fantasy junk and bits from 2 other books, and made sure to say "A PRINCESS OF MARS" as the title, it would've done better.

It won't allow me to roll 4d6 at once, so I think I'll tolerate to translate the common d6 values instead.
I'm using f-droid.org/en/packages/net.pe⦠. I supports the d6 and d20 I need, it supports first choosing how many dice I want and then roll, and it even supports selective re-rolling.
Sadly no rolling animation or sound, which seems like a silly thing to have, but which I would actually like.
The other five apps failed on:
- only d6
- text UI and yet felt cluttered
- too complex and yet not advanced enough -

https://f-droid.org/packages/com.minar.randomix isn't billed as doing d&d dice, but its roulette mode let's you do custom labels... -

For the first session we used MS Teams, because the Narrator has an account and it was convenient for him to set up and by the time I suggested Jitsi Meet instead a URL had already been mailed out, so we went with that. -

- Trivial to set your display name when you join. We all had display names in characters, which really helps atmosphere![0]
- Trivial private messaging.[1] Great for Narrator and Character to have a quick aside without having to use a breakout room.[2]
- No person is Host and needs to let others in, people can join as early as they like and just hang out until the announced start of the adventure.
- You can share screen as your background picture, so people can see both you and your desktop! Well, maybe not practical, and we didn't make use of it, but I think it could potentially be used for some cool stuff!
