     @prehensile lotr mostly runs on things being symbolic and Mattering for those reasons, so it wasn't just an evil mountain, it's where the ring was originally forged. Gotta take it home to destroy it

     @prehensile woulda been funny if they had to travel to a bunch of different volcanoes throwing the ring in and then fishing it out when it didnt melt because wrong volcano

     @prehensile The magic came from the combined arts of Celembrimbor and Sauron. The fire was only necessary to have volcanic heat because of the metals involved.

     Also Sauron only helped with 16 of the 19 rings. Marta, Nenya, and Vilya were forged solely by Celembrimbor. Note that some were forged and some were poured, so the heat requirements would have been ALL OVER the place.
