   One thing that's been stuck in my mind for a bit was that there was a possibility I could have had a more stable job, but I felt blocked by a simple reason: I'm disabled.

     Part of the reason I let the opportunity go by was a feeling that even if I got the job, I couldn't be sure how they'd react to my disability affecting my job.

     @brainblasted Coding under strict time deadlines is silly... if that's what they value in applicants, I would expect the company to force workers to meet bullshit deadlines that don't actually matter for anything.

     Even if I still have the chance, I don't know if I want to go through all the hoops again, because this wasn't the only one. I practically had to write an essay prior to this stage.

     For now at least, I have a contract with another company that was super easy to get started with. And I feel like contracting works well with other aspects of my disability, since my hours are flexible. Still, I feel like I missed a big opportunity due to a mix of my own anxiety and the lack of accommodations.

     With that in mind, I was scared by the prospect of the timed test, and I emailed the recruiters to see if I could get accommodations. They said they couldn't provide any.

     My anxiety wouldn't let me take the quizzes, and I was passed on the job (though apparently they want me to reach out if I'm still interested)

     It seemed like things were going well and the recruiters were interested in me, but then something big came up: I had to take two aptitude quizzes, and both quizzes were timed and prioritized speed over anything else.

     Processing speed is one of the places I'm hit by my disability hard. In school I'd do well on tests, but I needed double time on them. Literally - if a test was supposed to be taken within one hour, I often took two.

     @be @brainblasted but... a lot of places (not all) do work with stupid deadlines for projects that have no need of same in reality - what are called deathmarches in the gaming industry come to mind. I don't think its unreasonable to turn down a job on the assumption that the interview process reflects the job - why else would they run it that way?
