@lxo Thank you for challenging them on that. https://gnusocial.net/conversation/6339095
I do see their point, in that #corpocentric services depend on people paying attention to them ... if we could find a way to divert that attention, platforms like Twitter and YouTube would implode within a few months.
But if you're trying to observe conversations by most people, chances are, you'll have to observe them on those platforms.

Honestly, the other party he responded to was criticizing people for using front ends like Nitter and Invidious, saying that *people should just drop Twitter and YouTube entirely*. The posters and videos that most people want to see are still on those platforms, as lxo rightly pointed out.
Not everyone will drop Twitter and YouTube in favor of the Fediverse, and not everyone should do so. I wish people would stop demanding that others do so. Let people decide for themselves if and when they wish to drop those platforms.

And it wasn't lxo that pointed out those things. It was another person in the conversation.

My statement turned out to be invalid, as it was another who pointed out the things I mentioned.
I agree that using some other front-end can partially mitigate some of the negative effects of using those sites. And it would even be great to see people reaching the point where they don't even need tools like Nitter and Invidious.
