You've heard it all before. Debian+Gnome is the most universal fully free software experience, and yet, I can't help but feel it falls so flat. Particularly the limits of the Gnome desktop. I want to love it, but I just can't. The graphical shell and applications are what the end user interacts with the most. If the shell isn't right, the whole thing'll just feel wrong and the user may abandon ship.

While I love the gnome project for their toolkit, libadwaita and countless other projects, I just don't feel that I could comfortably install a distro with Gnome for a new user and expect optimum reception.
