Return is an important key, but there is no reason for it to be a grotesque blob that takes up 4β5 keys of space. I press asdfjkl more than I press Return and they only get one key each. On old keyboards like IBM M the ANSI Return key was even harder to press because of all the springs under it, which would add stress to your pinky.
EURKey makes a decent layout to combine Scandinavian with programming on an ANSI keyboard, so I don't miss ISO too much, but I will always pick ISO when given the choice.-
