Got to spend some time with #faveNephew today. We met for #coffee at the same place where I go for off-site management meetings. We talked about work, career plans, end-of-life planning. Also about the tendency of myself and his uncles to work lots of hours, to the point that it negatively affects our relationships.
His basic hourly wage is more than mine, and he applied for a promotion that could eventually put him way above anything I can expect to earn during my lifetime. He believes his agency will deny him the promotion because they have a shortage of people doing his specific job.
The workaholic thing was pretty funny. One of the people I supervise kept calling and texting about a schedule change he wanted me to approve. Meanwhile, my nephew had two face to face meetings that got called today, so someone kept calling and texting him to get confirmation about the time and place of one of the meetings, despite being “too busy” during the discussion that led to the meetings. This meant that both my nephew and myself were working while we were off.

Oh, and keeping abreast on the status of today’s outage.
From what I can tell, the outage is still ongoing, but the batch process to fix it will run overnight and it should be fixed before opening time tomorrow.

The batch job to fix things succeeded, so they pushed another 'priority update' this morning. So far, no issues.
