the mask thing I think is about nuance. ordinary masks are not useful in an aerosolized environment, so it's important that certain types of physicians (anesthesiologists, for example), have "real masks"
The inability to convey that nuance though is of course concerning.

I think when we look back in a few years, we'll see a lot of unjustified certainty in most of what has been communicated. From use of masks to most-affected groups, to likelihood of dying, the understanding changes constantly.

For example, I remember reading around March that there were no known deaths of patients 10 and younger. More recently, there is a peculiar set of symptoms that only affect younger patients (not extremely common, even then).

@musicman @guizzy I don't think "masks don't work; don't wear them unless you're sick" can be called nuance. It seems they were trying to prevent regular people from buying up real medical masks before hospitals could get them.

the problem is the definition of a mask.
the masks I wear definitely, 100%, DO NOT WORK in an aerosolized environment.
