Douglas A. Whitfield (musicman@nu.federati.net)'s status on Friday, 23-Aug-2019 19:59:54 UTC Douglas A. Whitfield oh, and there are three jobs listed in SF proper, rather than Alameda. It's just the job on my team would be in either Alameda or Minneapolis. - LinuxWalt (@lnxw48a1) {3EB165E0-5BB1-45D2-9E7D-93B31821F864} repeated this.

There are a number of others watching the wrecking ball approach, but unsure which direction provides escape and safety. -

Otherwise, take a look at offers in places you're willing to go.
.
I'm a lot more constrained about location because I'm wanting grandkid proximity. Otherwise, I'd consider some of the places where @musicman's employer is hiring. ( #NorCal is a hostile foreign nation for a #SoCal person, but I'd at least have been willing to try it. ) -
Douglas A. Whitfield (musicman@nu.federati.net)'s status on Friday, 23-Aug-2019 16:03:50 UTC Douglas A. Whitfield Depends on where in Minneapolis and "the bay", but in general, that's certainly true. I never did get anything, if you sent anything. -

Whitfield If Colorado is more appealing, there's this... but based on previous statements probably not a good fit: https://www.perforce.com/careers/open-jobs?gnk=job&gni=8a7887a9688e28650168aa485be63786 LinuxWalt (@lnxw48a1) {3EB165E0-5BB1-45D2-9E7D-93B31821F864} repeated this. -
Kaito (kai@ajin.la)'s status on Saturday, 24-Aug-2019 01:13:42 UTC Kaito @musicman do you have anything to say about the different locations?
My main thoughts about being closer to San Francisco is better weather and closer to the bigger tech scene. But would I limit promotion potential by being so far away from headquarters?

Douglas A. Whitfield (musicman@nu.federati.net)'s status on Saturday, 24-Aug-2019 01:33:17 UTC Douglas A. Whitfield @kai my boss is in Alameda. Her boss is in the UK. His boss is here. The head of global support will probably always be here, but Savinders role was previously in Minneapolis. I see no reason why it couldn't be in Alameda.
Full disclosure on comments below: I've never been to the bay area. My old boss and other people I know have talked to me a lot about it.
The weather is only better if you prefer one season to 4.
Cycling is arguably better here but depends on what you like. We don't have mountains, but the river valley does offer some climbs. You can bike from the headwaters to the gulf on the Mississippi River Trail.
The tech scene thing can go both ways. Easier to make a name for yourself here.
I think moving to the Midwest and then to the west coast might be less of shock to the system. This is the furtherest west I've ever lived. We get people from both coasts. Much fewer east coasters out west I assume. TV times will be more similar. If you watch sports you'll see more of your teams. Minneapolis feels bigger than it is because there is a whole lot of nothing between it and Seattle (unless you want to go south to ). -
Douglas A. Whitfield (musicman@nu.federati.net)'s status on Saturday, 24-Aug-2019 01:35:42 UTC Douglas A. Whitfield @kai of course, there's a certain laughable hubris about the people that have lived here forever because they've lived the bigger than it is life, but compared to Silicon Valley, I'm sure the full of themselves levels are much lower here. -
Douglas A. Whitfield (musicman@nu.federati.net)'s status on Saturday, 24-Aug-2019 02:01:15 UTC Douglas A. Whitfield @kai there would have to be. What that difference is, I couldn't say.
If you were to move here, my suggestion would be to live in St. Paul and ride the train in. St. Paul is much cheaper. The train is like half a block from the office. You could also live in Bloomington and easily take the train in. I don't know if that's cheaper than St. Paul. We never considered it, but my wife is an anesthesiologist, so probably our budget is bigger.
I'm sure people would help if you moved out to Alameda too but I already lived here, so didn't need any of that from perforce.
