@jeromescuggs It does the job of forcing the race for the presidency to be 51 separate contests to compete in each state individually plus DC. It forces a candidate to have to appeal to a broad segment of the overall populace to get to a minimum 270. In a single popular vote the population centers of NYC, SF, LA, and Boston could dominate the vote to the exclusion of any effective participation by the rest of the nation.

For all its warts, it is the way the entire country decides together.
