This requires multiple posts. I'm going to keep them all in the same thread, so if you are off GNU Social, you should visit http://micro.fragdev.com/daw/ to see the rest of the thread. --Wendy is on 24-hour call, so I don't know how much of a chance I'll be able to talk to her about new details, so I'll share with you what I feel I can. -- I think it's safe to say I have been offered a position to cover basketball for UMBC, Coppin State, Loyola MD, Morgan State, Towson, Maryland, George Washington, American, Howard and Navy. Additionally, I will cover soccer for Washington Spirit, Harrisburg City Islanders, and Baltimore Bohemians (plus some international stuff when it is in town). It's pretty good money, although travel is covered as an expense but not as time (alternatively, you could view the hourly rate as simply being lower). There are two main problems. First, many of the games are at night, which means I'll rarely see Wendy during the week.

Let me first backtrack on the statement about being offered the position. I still have to pass some sort of test, but considering my background, I am under the assumption that that is a formality. I'm aware of what people say about assumptions though. -- I may be able to pull double duty with sportazine.com on some of the stuff, but I don't know how much. We shall see. -- Wendy would likely be interested in coming to some of the soccer games with me and might take trips to DC with me on the weekend and drop me off at the games while she goes to eat or shop or whatever. I don't know how soon I can get started on basketball, so it's hard to say how much money in total this would be. -- Aside from not seeing Wendy, there is the issue of the car. This is actually a multi-pronged issue, but the first prong is that currently we share a car. Wendy goes to work when it is dark and often comes home when it is dark, at least in the winter. The area where we live is safe, but the area around the hospital is not super-safe.

Of course, people have been attacked in between the exit and where she parks her car, so it's hard to say how much riding the train really changes things. The next prong is I need to commit to staying in Baltimore (or maybe DC depending on a variety of things) for two months after Wendy goes to #Cincinnati. I could go to #Louisville / Cincinnati early but this is complicated for all sorts of reasons I am not going to get into unless people are curious. Basically, the extra two months means either I'll have to not do Harrisburg and stick to places I can get via train/bus, or I'll have to get a car/zipcar (or some other car sharing program...theoretically I could do something like Lyft, but I don't know how reimbursement would work for that. I know how reimbursement works for driving). Whether zipcar makes sense will depend on how close there is a zipcar spot to the various stadiums. I guess I will look into that now.
