Well, it's pretty unambiguous who is to blame. π

Ok, George Clooney emulating Sylvester Stallone's facial expression language for a few seconds was pretty great.

And Elijah Wood's part. I loved his part.

> [Rotten Tomatoes] critical consensus states: "The movie will be found wanting if one is not taken in by the 3-D visuals."
One is not.

We saw Shark Boy and Lava Girl, and it's far better than Spy Kids 3, but I'm also starting to appreciate Robert Rodriguez in a new way:
I think everyone involved in making these movies, however problematic the characters and their interactions and how so-so the CGI, are having a lot of fun. I mean, clearly Elijah Wood, George Clooney, Salma Hayek and Sylvester Stallone had a great time in Spy Kids 3. Especially Elijah Wood, in much the same way as in that Beastie Boys video. It shows.
SB&LG was based off a story by his 8-year old kid, and he stuffed the cast with family and friends. This is a guy who makes every movie under roughly the same budget, 50 MUSD, does as much as he can himself, does as well as he can under those circumstances, and generally earns the money back, sometimes several times over. These are high-end B-movies (for comparison, Troma will budget their movies anywhere from "zero" to 10 kUSD to 10 MUSD), and need to be viewed in that light.
The theme in SB&LG is a badly written rip-off of The Neverending Story: Humans need to dream to nourish the realm of fantasy, and as an addition to the theme, daydreaming is a super power.
Robert Rodriguez is just living his dream, and we get to watch.

@clacke oh that movie takes me back! good times with the children watching it.

@kat I had not heard of it before our streaming provider suggested it when I was looking for Spy Kids 1 and 2.
We watched Spy Kids 3 because it was 10 HKD on DVD. (1.3 USD) π
