@natecull @chrisaldrich I think you're supposed to have implemented at least IndieAuth, h-card, Atom and WebMention on your web site for it to make any sense to call it an IndieWeb site rather than just, you know, a page with an Atom feed.
@chrisaldrich @natecull I feel that the IndieWeb movement is a response to all this OStatusing and Diasporaing and a bunch of bloggers going "OMG you NIH-afflicted people we already have like 75% of this", and proceeding to implement the remaining 25%.
And yeah, in particular with OStatus there's a big overlap of technologies, but IW has a strong KISS focus, where all this "following" and other twittery facebooky stuff is considered overkill when you can just add a feed to your feed reader. And everything is supposed to be Plain Old Web Pages with microformats, none of this XML and JSON stuff if it can be helped (but do use it where it makes sense).
@clacke@natecull By adding on the ability to send and receive webmentions you can support rich two-way conversations and interactions the way most social media sites do.
I'll be the first to admit that my coding skills are nearly non-existent, but I've been able to set up something which lets me do two way communication with a variety of services like twitter, facebook, google+, flicker, Instagram, github, and other indieweb sites.
@clacke@natecull In short, I think of IndieWeb as a buffet instead of a religion: you can pick and choose the parts you'd like to have or support, but no one is forcing you to do anything you don't want to do. :)
@sandro @chrisaldrich @natecull I would definitely like to see h-card and WebMention supported on some AP implementation. Writing my own adaptation Any Year Now (TM).
@sandro @chrisaldrich @natecull Not hard to make, but judging from the discussions that have been had[0], probably hard to get merged.
But I'm not very interested in Mastodon. I think it would be interesting to explore what a static-generated/dynamic hybrid microblog with IndieWeb + AP support might look like.
@natecull @chrisaldrich Known offers cleaner layouts, carries less baggage, and follows all modern IndieWeb best practices. Also, as the page you finally found says, it has a focus on offering #posse tools.
> There are two ways to create a site with Known: you can download the software and install it on your own webspace or you can sign up[0] for a hosted account with us.
@chrisaldrich @natecull aaand that redirects to https://withknown.com . They are making it very difficult to try to give them money. Apparently you need to mail them to get an offer.
@natecull@clacke Yes its still there and even supports Webmention too! If you want to try some basic Known functionality I've got an open install that you can sign up for an account on: http://known.boffosocko.com
@natecull @chrisaldrich This is what I've had in mind for years for OStatus, one user with several personas, where you can choose to follow the full user or just a sub-user with a certain set of categories of output.
