Says it all, really.

@lain @zemichi I don't know what it is. Roddenberry's vision is very much progressive. In the future we will have mixed species on our spaceships, we won't use dirty oppressive money, and we will value openness, education, science and collectivist individualism.
DS9 is interesting because it challenges those ideals and nuances them, but the Federation is still at its core following the vision.
DIS is all over the place, and mostly ass-backwards.
ST:DIS SPOILERS ALL OF S01
So first you have the Klingon cultural expert whose advice is ignored. Her advice is proven right, but everybody hates her, including she herself. What is this, a Catholic show?
Everyone claims the she caused the war, but from what I remember of that episode -- I can't be bothered to go back and check, her mutiny resulted in nothing and the Klingons attacked because they perceived the Federation as weak.
And then, in spite of everyone calling Burnham a warmonger and shaming and court-martialing her for it, it turns out that the whole leadership of Starfleet actually has no moral consistency at all and has no problem with genocide, as long as it saves the Federation. By allying themselves with Mirror Universe Terrans not only once, but twice, and once even knowingly, and with the worst one at that, they are showing they they're just playing realpolitik all the way.
I guess the progressive bit is supposed to be Burnham rebelling against genocide and finding an alternative solution (although an actually questionable one -- it only works through scriptwriter handwaving and insane luck ... if it works at all, we'll see). But if this is a progressive vision, the government should have been in the right to begin with! ... err, instead of being right-wing.
I don't know. They're obviously trying to be dark and edgy (which is such a 90s thing to do), but they're just demolishing everything to do it. What's S02 going to be? True social-liberal Starfleeters starting a rebellion against the Federation and founding the Federation As We Know It?
