The charging standard is a pile of fuck, rarely obeyed, and is really stupid actually. I think USB-C only partially solves the problem... dodgy Chinese chargers designed for MacBooks will probably happily send 20v to your phone and brick it.

On USB-C everything is complicated and even for charging you want to negotiate over data channels and stuff.
And you still definitely shouldn't sell something as USB 3.1 USB-C if it doesn't have all wires.
