A Mac has been upgraded from Lion to El Capitan. Now printing no longer works. It looks as if it's printing but the jobs disappear to Nirvana
-
... it's a simple PCL-based USB HP Laserjet 1160. So no network involved. Printer gets detected. How to debug? No error message in console
-
@harmlessgryphon no driver to download from HP for the HP Laserjet 1160. They say it's all from Apple. There's an update though.
-
@harmlessgryphon Installing "Update for HP Printing Software 5.1" from the Apple App store gave a weird error. http://qttr.at/20ee
-
@harmlessgryphon and it says "please re-install the update" but:after reboot the update appears as "completed" and there's no button anymore
-
#MacOSX: How to re-install an Update from AppStore that reported an error but still the update is treated as completed? Can't print anymore
-
#MacOSX Each time the user tries to print a "ClassicNotSeize.kext" error pops up and also that dir & files have wrong ownership qttr.at/20ej
-
@harmlessgryphon I don't think it's hardware incompatibility in this case. Cant be an USB3 issue b/c it's a non-USB3 early 2011 #MacBookPro.
-
@harmlessgryphon before the failed update it just didn't print although it behaved as if it worked,as if th output were redirected to a file
-
@harmlessgryphon too bad the Macbook & printer are now several hundred kilometres away and there's no other known-to-work printer there.
-
@harmlessgryphon @zorak Seems my "chown -R root:wheel ...ClassicNotSeize.kext" AND reboot have solved the printing problem :-) Shaka! :-)
-
@harmlessgryphon maybe on purpose—that ordinary account can't place files in that dir. The File must have been placed as root &
-
@zorak hm,it just occurs me: maybe that NotSeize msg actually came from another background activity& was unrelated to the HP driver update!?
-
@zorak Nope, no Canons or scanners that I know of. I'm not the Mac owner myself, but afaik there's only the HP and previously OKI printer
-
@zorak it's a 2011 Macbook a friend brought to me to be upgraded it from Lion to El Capitan,so the problem probably came from the OS upgrade
-
@zorak Interesting — maybe that HP "printer software update" includes support for scanners / multi function printers with a "scan" button.
