@lxoliva Cool text! The Morpheus delivery really works, and I support every word of it(although I don't live up to all of it -- I suffer from pragmatism still).
I'm putting vocal delivery of this into my list of #hprep todo.
@lxoliva I like the #ssb software and I like the community.
There have been several influxes of people who are interested in coops, community organizing, cultural freedom and individual empowerment, so it's as much a social network about making social networks as it was when I joined only a few months ago.
I would be there more if there were a mobile client. It's on the way. Also it's a mild annoyance that identity is tied to instance.
As far as I'm concerned, the killer app is #gitssb. The most important thing to do about ssb right now would be to provide better public gitssb bridges.
> Basically I'm running a real node.js process in the background, which runs full scuttlebot (leveldown swapped for memdown, sodium is fully in JS, but fs and net and dgram and all the rest are the real shit) and the react native app uses ssb-client to communicate to that, and things... work.
> Use Free and decentralized communication networks, like GNU social/StatusNet/Mastodon, Diaspora and Pump.io, or distributed, like Twister, instead of the centralized manipulators.
This grouping works better in text than in speech, and also a year later it may be in need of an update. pump.io is on the one hand less (directly) relevant than ever, on the other hand it will soon be reunited with the Fediverse -- but it's not yet. StatusNet is not a thing, and wasn't really a year ago either -- a StatusNet node is just a neglected GNU Social node. And we have newcomers, both networks and network nodes. And then there's also (not really an update, just an omission) Hubzilla and Friendica.
So I'm thinking something like:
> Use Free and decentralized communication networks, like the Fediverse of GNU Social, Mastodon and Pleroma, or the Federation of diaspora* and Socialhome, or participate in both with Friendica or Hubzilla, or use a distributed network like Twister or Secure Scuttlebutt, instead of the centralized manipulators.
It's a bit of a mouthful though. As much as I don't want to leave any of the options out, maybe I have to for the sake of delivery. For starters, even mmn himself recommends people to use Pleroma instead of GS these days.
Maybe I can still feel good about myself if I cut it down but expand the list in the show notes. That would allow me to add PeerTube and other up-and-coming AP implementations, as well as all the various Masto frontends happening these days.
