     @beardyunixer In this case connecting to the mesh only requires being within wifi proximity of another peer. There are existing community mesh networks like Freifunk and Pittmesh, but those are fundamentally about connecting to the internet. The Freedombone mesh isn't about that. It doesn't care if the internet exists or not and is just for communications within a local area.
     
     There have been tests and demos but as far as I know this particular system isn't being used on any scale anywhere.
