@sir @dracometallium bash is everywhere and I use it everywhere, so that's what I'll be teaching. I might throw in any differences with *BSD printf and coreutils printf as a curiosity.

printf in bash: how, when and why?

@sir Yeah. Echo is just one parameter less, which makes it more convenient for the special case of writing something verbatim and ending with a newline. When I write some semi-complex for loop in bash I usually insert "echo" before anything that does anything, to see that it's calling what I hope it's calling, but if there's any quoting or spaces or anything going on, the right formatting string can help dissect that.

@sir The meaning of my post is that I will make an episode with that title, and I have the content already semi-clear in my mind.

@dracometallium @sir printf is also a shell builtin. Anyway, I'll be talking about bash printf.
-
@dracometallium @sir No problem, it wasn't clear from context unless you'd seen my hprep tag before.

@sir @dracometallium Feel free to make your own follow-up episode. ;-)
