A bit of history about StatusNet/GNU Social: lots of them were founded by people running from very oppressive moderation. So they're obviously unhappy.
At the same time, Mastodon users are mostly people who've been hurt by /the lack of moderation/.
The two cultures are really colliding in bad ways now and the fighting is getting worse.
They're not happy we block instances, and we're not happy they take hands-off approaches.
But is defederating from each other the ideal solution? Prolly not.
