     It was the other way around. Evan wrote OStatus and Buzz adopted it. Sigh. Also there was no relation to GNU at the time.
     
     But yes, OStatus is the protocol soup of WebFinger+Atom/RSS+ActivityStreams+PubSubHubBub+Salmon, which the additional bonus that Salmon is implemented slightly off-spec.
