@strypey you would be amazed. I could squeeze the life out of someone and not feel the slightest microscopic drop of bad about it.
you need a bunch of stupid contrived bullshit ideology just to have any sense of identity about yourself.
you are worth nothing
- Hallå Kitteh repeated this.
-
I want to adopt a kid in a few years.
-
@hckr why not make one yourself
-
@augustus it's gonna sound dumb, but I actually had a realization that it basically puts more good in the world to give an orphan a chance than to just have my own.
those kids go through a lot. my situation as a kid never got that bad, but like I understand them. I made my own way because I knew I had no other chance to actually make it in the real world, but a lot of those kids won't have the opportunities and lucky breaks that I've had.
they're just kids, too. it's horrible. they deserve a shot at it like the rest of us
-
I counter: you're being selfish. How many actual orphans exist these days? We don't die from compound fractures or typhus. That kid's parents were unable to hack it because of the manifold failures of "the elites." They could have kept it had they been able to. Helping that kid's parents would make three people happy, but then you'd be down a kid and have to make your own. @hckr @augustus
-
@hckr this is cruel as fuck but i sorta think that the kind of parents who would orphan their own child aren't the kind of genes that should get a chance to propagate barring unusual circumstances like tragic parental deaths, i don't know what extent you can even classify orphans like that, but i'm a genetically selfish black hearted bio-determinist so w/eva
-
@somercet @augustus I counter: you're a dumb idiot. There's a million different reasons that kids end up orphans, NONE OF WHICH excuse it. If the kid decides he/she wants to re-bond with bio parents later on in life, that's fine.
I'm what a lot of people would consider "the elite" and honestly, adoption is something I think about almost daily.
you're contrived political narrative doesn't change the fact that there are good, smart kids out there wondering when they'll eat next, if they'll ever go to a real school, have their own lunch money, have their own ANYTHING. You have no fucking clue how some of those kids have to live while in orphanage care.
I'm not out on a utilitarian mission to fix the earth, but like I WANT kid(s), DONT want a wife, and it seems like the obvious answer is to adopt a kid who wouldn't otherwise have a good chance at life, but would have an EXCELLENT chance under my care, and I'd get to do fatherly shit and watch them grow up and shit like that.
Anyways, fuck yourself, you don't know shit.
-
@augustus @hckr It's more of a function of environment than genetics. In a society with perverse wealth allocation it is at least as easy to propagate bad traits by protecting them with privilege.
-
@moonman @hckr yeah i know this is one my biases though. the first thing i think when i hear orphan is "oh what irresponsible parents!" but it's totally not like that
-
@augustus why is everyone so fucking DUMB about this.
NOT ALL ORPHANS ARE FROM CRACKHEADS WHO COULDNT CUT IT
BEING AN ORPHAN HAS EXACTLY ZERO CORRELATION TO HOW POTENTIALLY ARYAN THE KIDS GENES ARE.
I AM GOING TO ADOPT WHITE CHILDREN AND START A SMALL ARYAN ARMY
-
@augustus @hckr It's not all genes, moron.
-
@clacke @hckr i've made that concession about three times faggot
-
@hckr @augustus @somercet If one is going to have a kid, it's better to raise one that was already brought into this world and needs a parent, than to bring another one.
That being said, we had a kid of our own blood. I'd say one is ok to bring into this world. But that's my limit. :-)
-
@augustus @hckr I admit I was a bit hot on the button and behind on the conversation.
-
@clacke @augustus @somercet @hckr Reject the false god Malthusianism. Have six more.
-
@moonman @augustus @somercet @hckr It's only false because we don't.
-
@clacke @augustus @somercet @hckr I'm of the opinion that the solution to most of our problems comes with increased numbers and specialization. For instance I don't believe space travel would have been invented by an earth with only 200 million people.
-
@moonman Even if food production is not a concern, I think the point about orphans still stands.
-
@taknamay my brain agrees with you guys, but my heart wants my own.
-
@moonman I don't criticize other people for having children, but it will factor into my decision if/when I'm ready for kids
-
@moonman @augustus @somercet @hckr I agree, but I believe after a few billion people you're reaching diminishing returns.
-
@clacke @moonman @augustus @somercet that's just what the situation is right now.
imagine once space travel is more affordable, or at least to the point of collecting the materials in our space neighborhood, different colonies, moving throughout the stars, learning, all reporting back to the central hive subreddit, or maybe it just branches off and human beings evolve into several other species and do space shit
india is fucking us over in terms of bodies. they ain't doing shit, ain't ever done shit, ain't ever gonna BE shit, except shit. those calories could go farther with better people
-
@hckr India's worst problems were caused by the stresses of British colonization and decades of mostly non-violent independence struggle
-
@hckr they had a literate and numerate civilization when our ancestors were still roaming around in boats killing each other
-
@strypey and the arabs invented 0, thereby paving the ground for computer science, cryptography, modern mathematics. they're still fucking ragheads, and we're still gonna get em.
doing a cool thing doesnt excuse you for being a fucking loser afterwards.
-
@hckr it continues to blow my mind how casually racist and ignorant of actual science so many techno-utopians are
-
@hckr @strypey Please neither adopt nor produce a kid.
