Finnish Union Blasts "Free Money Experiment" As "Unworkable, Uneconomical And Ultimately Useless" https://quitter.im/url/387878
- Claes Wallin (韋嘉誠) repeated this.
-
@zerohedge Of course they would. A Basic Income removes the need for minimal wages, thereby reducing unemployment, undermining trade unions.
-
@zerohedge Why aren't you linking to the original Bloomberg article you're quoting?

@se7en I don't know what those words mean, but your linked comics are fun. BI != minimum wage or welfare though, it has different effects.
-
@clacke Keep lying to yourself and worshiping your communist EU
-
@clacke @zerohedge BI isn't quite as useful unless you couple it with some kind of rent control system as well. Something which is not going to work in Finland I suspect, since most housing is rented from private individuals
Overall I'm surprised this experiment is happening in Finland of all places, since it's relatively centrist/right wing compared to say Sweden and Norway
-
@se7en The main point about BI is that we already have it, but in an inefficient form which creates unemployment through lock-in effects.
-
@tomas @zerohedge It's happening in Finland *because* it is more liberal than socialist. They're approaching it from a liberal perspective.
-
@tomas @zerohedge I don't see that rent control is necessary. The people driving prices are middle-class and BI is income-neutral for them.
-
@clackemovedtoheldscalla @zerohedge Fair point. I still suspect there will be an effect of shifting rents such that the cheapest housings suddenly become more expensive. I might sound a bit too negative though; I do like the idea of BI, just that people aren't being sufficiently pessimistic for my taste :]
