At the advice of a friend, I substituted bread crumbs, which hold the lentil balls together nicely, and makes them vegan to boot. -

But lately I've been hanging out with a crowd containing a large number of vegetarians and vegans. At an election party where we were watching debates on a big screen in a darkened room several people mistook the meatballs for chocolate truffles. That started the ball rolling, so to speak.
