   Well, reinstalling this server for pump.io has been a nightmare. It refuses to let me install ubuntu server 14.04 from any of either two DVDs or a USB key. The result is always the same. At 12% of the progress of copying installation files to disk, it fails. I have tried re-downloading the ISO image twice. One of those DVDs was the one I used to install the main server a few days back, so I know it works just fine. I am trying to make a USB key of 14.04 desktop edition now and I will see what happens there. #maddening

     I should note that I also already ran a memory test on the system, assuming it was a bad memory I/O causing the problem. It passed the memtest86 program with flying colors. #doublemaddening

     @steve I’m assuming you already tried wiping the HDD with #DBAN or similar ‘disk wipe’ before starting installation. What if you swap drives, install from the other computer, then swap them back?

     @lnxw48: neither the old or new drive would accept an Ubuntu installation until I replaced the SATA cable. Then both were happy. #wtf
