Bob Mottram (bob@social.freedombone.net)'s status on Monday, 30-Jan-2017 17:04:16 UTC Bob Mottram @captainfrosty @mcscx @monsterbater as always it depends on the threat model, but I would avoid VPNs and just stick to a Tor browser as much as possible. Also use Orbot/OrFox on mobile. VPNs typically aren't secure and if the government is your main threat then they'll hand over any data they may have about you. Primarily VPNs are used for censorship avoidance rather than privacy. @mcscx@quitter.se repeated this. -

@mcscx@quitter.se (mcscx@quitter.se)'s status on Saturday, 27-May-2017 18:58:50 UTC @mcscx@quitter.se @bob as the NSA may control exit nodes they may also control onion-based web servers. They controlled a whole onion web hoster for a while -
@mcscx@quitter.se (mcscx@quitter.se)'s status on Saturday, 27-May-2017 19:25:13 UTC @mcscx@quitter.se @bob and if they also happen to control the user's entry node? -
@mcscx@quitter.se (mcscx@quitter.se)'s status on Saturday, 27-May-2017 19:46:22 UTC @mcscx@quitter.se @bob the user still enters Tor via an entry node. The user's packets'll be routed via several hops to either an onion address or an exit node -
@mcscx@quitter.se (mcscx@quitter.se)'s status on Saturday, 27-May-2017 20:42:59 UTC @mcscx@quitter.se @zoowar so my idea of entry nodes being involved is wrong? Will have to read that later. -
