#Powercut! The whole neighborhood seems black. This almost never happens here...

More even than just the neighborhood it seems: there is no light reflected from the clouds (that I can see) - all there is is a little moonlight where the clouds are thin enough. #powercut

Wow, that took almost 3 hours. Surely that must gave been a big one. No data on my phone either, the radio towers were out, too (connected but no traffic). First good sign after 2.5h was that I saw cloud-reflected light from other neighborhoods here and there. I was making !coffee by boiling water in a pan on the gas stove, by candle light... #powercut

On the local news: at 7:35 still 85,000 addresses without power. Not just most of Amsterdam but around the city as well. #powercut

Originally some 360,000 customers without power. Also on the highways around the city. Trains and trams affected, too. #powercut

@tobias I haven't heard about a cause yet, except that it was at a big distribution station on the outskirts of the city. Generally out electricity network is quite resilient though, 'cascade' effects almost never occur (and didn't now, afaik). But the time it hit does suggest a peak in demand may have had something to do with it. #powercut

At 8:00 all households in the city have power again, metro is getting started, busses ride normally - but no trams yet (overhead power still off) and no trains. That's going to be fun (NOT): I have to travel back to Groningen today... #powercut
