One final test and a bit more of write-up left todo for #tomorrow, but I've *finally* the latest version of Flash (interaction and controls and all) working in not only Chromium but Firefox (on Ubuntu). For me, *needed* in Firefox to get interactive font previews with your own text strings working on sites like MyFonts: the only way to check how characters work together without buying a font first. Well, that only to a week or so, in total. This stuff (Flash in Firefox - and other browsers!) has been in flux since at least 2013 or so. *Disadvantage* of the Internet: it "remembers" everything, so it's actually hard to pick out the one authoritative source that's still valid TODAY. (And then you find there's another little piece missing...) For now: time for a night cap and relax a bit before trying to sleep after a major victory (or so it feels). \o/ #nevergiveup

Here's a sample 'live view' (thanks to Flash) of a font I got - the whole family at 80% off. If you need special fonts for print or web design projects, it's worth it to keep an eye on MyFonts.com's special offers. #myfonts #livepreview #flash #typography http://oracle.skilledtests.com/attachment/160451

@mk http://www.dafont.com has something similar (without flash, I think) and there you can filter available fonts depending on license.

@vinv Oh, I'll have to check that out. It's a long time ago since I've been there - I love MyFonts for all the tools they give you, and a good web licence that's (usually) 'pay once' instead of 'pay continuously'. I have a long list font vendors but actually visit only a few of them any more.

@vinz OK, I had a look at dafont once more - and was immediately reminded why I hardly ever do: First and foremost: one may be able to filter on license, but not on style: there's no way to select only 'geometric' style fonts (if you try searching you only see fonts with the string 'geometric' in the name.) You can do a sort of preview (enter your own text) but it's not 'live' (not even Ajax): for every small change you need to re-submit. There's also no way to fit width, let alone choosing color or selecting OpenType features. (1/2)

@vinzv Most fonts are display fonts, not usable for a block of text - even to the point of omitting symbols like brackets, copyright, even a period. While you can preview a line of text, you cannot preview (with dummy text) how it would look in a block of text. And so on... in short: with maybe a rare exception here and there, these are not professionally-crafted fonts - but that's what I need. These are not fonts you can build a 'house style' on, but maybe a few here and there are good for a once-off little gimmick, or 'sticker' to put on your site. So, I've found looking at the Dafont site is mostly a waste of time - that hasn't changed. (2/2)
