17. Owlbear lair. The corridor is broken at this point by a natural rift, presumably a long-ago earthquake – or perhaps just another clever test? The chamber is filled with bones of animals like deer – and a few humans. This is the lair of an owlbear, which steps from the shadows with a shriek when the PCs enter. As described in room 1, mooning the owlbear can give the players a magical advantage, if they’re willing to take the embarrassing risk. A tunnel on the far side of the chamber, wide enough for the owlbear to pass through, winds upward and eventually leads to the outside, where the entrance is hard to see. This can serve as a way for PCs to get some rest outside of the dungeon, if desired. If the bones on the floor of the chamber are searched, every 5 minutes of searching can discover, in order, 58 gp, a potion of greater healing, a silver bracelet worth 25 gp, 5 arrows +1, and a flail +1.
