16. Transformation machine. This small side chamber contains a massive mechanical contraption with multiple levers and knobs and buttons, labeled in Common, as well as an open coffin-shaped box connected to it, facing a hatch into the machine. Inspection of the machine will suggest (with a DC 14 Insight check) that the device can be used to convert a humanoid from one race to another with the appropriate settings. Any of the standard humanoid races can be converted to any other. If anyone is curious enough to try the device, they must get into the box and another character must make a DC 13 Investigation check to properly use the device. Do not make this roll until a PC has committed to the transformation. Success means that the device works as intended. Class characteristics and attributes do not change, but the PC loses their previous racial characteristics (like nightvision) and gains the ones of the new race. Failure of the check by less than 5 means that the operator does not feel confident enough about the controls to run the machine. Failure of the check by 5 or more means that the operator misunderstands how the machine works, and the affected PC is transformed randomly. In operation, the coffin box closes, it enters the machine, there is about 5 minutes of horrific metallic grinding sounds, and then it reemerges with the transformation. The machine works well, and can even reverse a change, but there is a 1% chance each operation that is ceases to function.
