A completely successful uncovering of the story causes all in the courtroom to turn to face the party. “Law is flawed, broken, and cruel,” they say at once. “Chaos is the only way.” They then all disappear, and a +5 to the Dungeon Mood is passed. If Gismon is found innocent but the whole story is not revealed, the ghosts disappear after a “not guilty” verdict, and there is a +3 to the Dungeon Mood. If the PCs fail at their quest, the ghosts chant, “Another innocent lost to the failures of law,” before disappearing; the Dungeon Mood does not change. If anyone attacks any ghosts, all disappear except for two ghostly court guards, who attack; the Dungeon Mood drops by -3. If the PCs simply leave without resolving anything, the Dungeon mood drops by -5; the Chaos God hates a quitter. The candle remains after the ghosts disappear. It appears permanently fixed in its silver holder, and burns endlessly without wearing out. This is the Candle of Mal’khar, one of the three items needed in order to unlock the passage to the next level.
