Today is the 65th anniversary of LEGO’s 1958 patent on their bricks in Denmark. Their very first bricks were introduced earlier than that, in 1949.
But did you know that Chicago’s ELGO Plastics manufactured and sold their own interlocking plastic building blocks in the late 1930s, a full *ten years* before LEGO had the idea?
