You can break an open protocol by adding proprietary enhancements on top of it.
Google does that with calendar. Apple does that with SMS.
The goal is to punish outsiders and lock you in.

@iska @manyver_se @dsfgs @staltz the best I can do is give them a hint on what prevents me from adopting penpot and I even suggested a way that would put them ahead of figma.
