@brandon @simon RRA98 Section 1203 blocks me from doing anything too active as it could be construed as a civil rights violation. That applies to me even when off-duty and is far harsher than a Bivens-style action under 42 USC 1983. Yeah, the threat of summary courts martial at work lead to strange times.

@joeyh The President (but not CEO) of Microsoft was in the news calling for USA.gov to regulate tech companies. The current mood in DC is to Tax & Regulate things to oblivion, though. The goose that continues to lay the golden eggs (today’s Internet) is gonna need replacing with corporate calls like that and continued dumb moves by Mozilla. Or, to put it in blunter terms, "due process" is what prevents my employing bureau from robbing you blind and acting like a biblical-style tax collector when you owe Uncle Sam money. Many of us at work actually fear ever being placed in a position to have to work like the apostle Matthew was in. We're not stupid thugs. We're fairly decently educated thugs...

If any of the folks in tonight's debate talk about grabbing guns and also mention suspending "due process" to be able to do so they really should be careful in what they wish for. If we lose something like "due process" then my employing bureau would become extremely hyper-efficient as the country would descend into being an authoritarian regime with no respect for private property rights. Life would get really, really scary quite quickly.

Something to ponder, I suppose.
