@aral I'm so disappointed in Germany's obstruction on any further action.
By their own words they even have enough gas stockpiled to last the summer. Decisive sanctions should make it possible to end the conflict well ahead of the fall.

Sweden's parliament vote to ban russian oil and gas (mostly symbolic, not much volume or money on a European scale, especially since oil companies have already stopped voluntarily) failed due to a) "move only in unison with the EU" (most of them, especially Social Democrats) and b) "bad optics to give the Greens a win" (Conservatives).
The fact that they feel comfortable giving the second reason to the press is a typical example of how devoid of humanity our elected representatives are.
Early start of the skiing season with nice weather.

@werekat
I tried this out in a different social context today, btw, and it was 50/50 acceptance and pushback to the idea that the red cross isn't universally good.
@werekat
I'd be comfortable funding your group, where can I find it?
After all, the highest priority is to prevent damage to that and those that are still whole, and that's only done by pushing the invaders out.
@werekat
Hmm. Did you have a link to werekat's top choice local orgs for sending money to? March bills are done, and it looks like it is about time to send the next donation.
(I'm glad DWB aren't known for asshattery, I'd be miffed to have to drop them from the monthly donation.)
Also, I kinda figured that while the govt had a cash crunch early on, it is getting solid foreign funds now to cover short-term needs there.
@werekat
Yeah, I'll default to sending money and direct the others to reading carefully the Ukraine post list of wanted things.
@werekat
The others: Those that can't find the money, but have an excess of sleeping bags or powerbanks.
@werekat
All the sympathy to you and yours.
And my yelling at local politicians so that they'll do more.
@werekat
Yeah, I am, but I could probably be louder. Will increase efforts. The post office is doing free shipping now too, so some stuff is coming that way too.
I'm aware if the RC mess, and so is most around me. How are Doctors Without Borders seen? They're my default long term donation target, and all I know is that they've setup trauma care units in western Ukraine.
Oh, and how about donations directly to the govt? More or less impact than volunteer orgs?

The early success of the internet and the rfc system was, in my opinion, down to making protocols and standards a low barrier and fast turnaround process. It enabled IETF to run circles around ITU and ISO.
