i have a bachelors degree in computer science but @m455 is way more computer scientist than i am
me: i used elixir for 4 years and now i know how to misuse pipelines and the with statement pretty good even though the docs say i'm doing antipatterns (what do they know)
m455: ive never touched elixir before so for my "hello world" i'll build a whole ass lisp interpreter for fun
me: too hard to think about, i'll just watch and be impressed
@abbienormal all of those i think are general purpose. registrars will tell you if there's a constraint on their use but i don't think those have any such constraints.
tech bros are fans of .io for the "input/output" connotation but it has a problematic history; unlike .tv or .me, the island countries in the indian ocean originally assigned the .io tld receive none of the profits. https://www.thewebmaster.com//hosting/articles/io-tld-top-level-domain/
🧠 again 👨 huh 🧠 it's time to read it again 👨 wait what? we haven't even had time to read half the pile we picked up 6 months ago 🧠 i demand locked tomb 👨 you can quote it from memory already 🧠 not enough of it. can't recall page numbers for some of the quotes that are on the merch 👨 there's merch? 🧠 also buy the merch 🧠 but first, read it again
that feel when you're really into the ebook you've been reading a bit of every night and you check anxiously to see how soon it will end and there's still like 80% of the story left to go, aw yeah
in other news i am suuuper enjoying gideon the ninth by tamsyn muir
The Locked Tomb is full of poetry and somehow i love it
i'm halfway through a reread of the second book. i fear i might reread my favorite parts yet again until i can rehearse them from memory (luckily i'm almost to that point now)
🧠 read it again 👨 nope 🧠 read it again 👨 not yet 🧠 read it again 👨 stuff to do 🧠 read it again 👨 it hasn't even been a week 🧠 read it again 👨 last time we liked a book so much that we read it twice we were 16 years old 🧠 you listened to the same techno song on loop like 30 times yesterday, read the gideon books again 👨 sleep would be a fine thing 🧠 fuck sleep, read it again 👨 okay just... just a little bit 🧠 muhaha
the strongest criticism i have is that the trope "character is mid-sentence in revealing crucial information but entirely by coincidence is interrupted" happens about a hundred times,
i wish the author would just hang a lampshade on it so we can laugh at it
could even be a literal lampshade
considering we're not above having characters somehow accidentally quoting eminem lyrics at least ten thousand years in the future
the first time through i was feeling "lost and retconned for half the book"
the third time through i'm appreciating once again how this author can be ridiculous at times yet internally consistent and coherent, all the pieces click, the reread is a whole new experience
even if it turns out to be difficult, even if i have to reread five times to Get It, i can't fricken wait for the next book in September, and the promised book after that
