everything i find from web search gives me libraries, and i'm not interested in writing a frontend right now

an idea: every [month], we pick a general purpose instance and agree to recommend people to _that one_ when an instance picker would be too overwhelming. that way, we get the benefits of easy-to-sign-up, but don't swamp that one mastodon.social
