I'm thrilled by what the 500 character limit and the OSS mastodon platform/open API will allow in terms of sharing ideas and perhaps more importantly sharing knowledge. So many good questions asked on Twitter, and so little space to write intelligible, thoughtful answers.
It could become what some IRC tech/language/software support channels are, except it'd be searchable, threaded, archived, and alive in another way. I don't see myself leaving IRC anytime soon but still a nice complement.
